Of course, when Jesus told a story, he didn’t do it just to entertain the people, though he was a good storyteller. He always had a specific reason, for he could sense what they needed to hear. Everyone seated around him knew that he was about to enter Jerusalem. Many who believed in him were thinking, Surely now he will establish his kingdom. So Jesus began to tell them this story: “A man who was of noble birth, a descendant of royalty, left on a journey. He would travel to a distant country, and there he would be appointed as king over his homeland. When he returned, he would be recognized as their king. But he knew he would not return right away. So he called ten of his servants and gave each of them one mina, worth about three months’ wages. ‘Invest this money while I am gone,’ he ordered. . . .
