Mark 10:46-52; Luke 18:35-43, TBC Book Two, Chapter 76 A large crowd of people gathered near the city gates at the entrance to Jericho. This was not the same city that had been leveled hundreds of years earlier during the time of Joshua. This city had been built by Herod the Great. But it was named after the ancient city of Jericho, which had been deserted for some time, and it was located just south of the original Jericho. The crowd grew larger and larger, and they were all gathering for one reason—to see Jesus of Nazareth. “Here he comes!” someone shouted. A blind man, named Bartimaeus, sat in his usual spot, begging for money from all the people who would pass that way. When he heard the great commotion and felt all the people jostling around him, he called out, “What’s going on?” Again he shouted, “Please, someone, tell me—what’s going on?” Finally, someone said to him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing through our gates.” In a loud voice, the blind man shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! . . .” (See THE BIBLE CLICKS, Book Two, Chapter 76, for the rest of the story.)
