197 God’s Promise to Abram

Genesis 15:1-21, TBC Book One, Chapter 11
Some time after Melchizedek had met with Abram, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision. “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” Abram sighed. “O Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I am childless? . . . You have given me no children, so all I own will one day go to my servant, Eliezer.”

“No. . . . You will have a son, and he will be your heir. . . . 

Taking Abram outside, the Lord said, “Look up in the sky and count the stars—if you can. That’s how numerous I’ll make your offspring. . . .”

As Abram gazed at the stars, the Lord reminded him of the plan God had for his life. . . . The task before him seemed impossible. . . . As the sun began to set, Abram fell into a deep sleep. A thick and dreadful darkness now swept over him. Then the Lord spoke. . . .
