Revelation 17–18, TBC Book Two, Chapter 185
One of the seven angels now came to John, and with outreached arms it said, “Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute who sits on many waters. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her and earth’s inhabitants were intoxicated by her adulteries.”

John was then carried away in the Spirit to a desert, where he saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that had seven heads and ten horns. She was dressed in purple, scarlet, and gold, wearing precious jewels. She held a golden cup, filled with abominations. Then John saw that she was drunk with the blood of the saints, those who had born testimony to Jesus.

Noting John’s surprised expression, the angel said, “Why are you amazed? I will explain: The beast you saw, which once existed then ceased to exist, will rise from the Abyss to go to his appointed destruction. Upon seeing him return to life, earth’s inhabitants will be astonished.

“Understanding this calls for wisdom. The beast’s seven heads stand for seven hills on which the woman sits. They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one now lives. Another is yet to come, and when he does, he must remain for a little while. The beast who had ceased to exist is an eighth king who belongs to the seven, and he is going to his destruction.

“The ten horns stand for ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom. But when they do, they will receive authority along with the beast, and they will use that power and authority for the beast’s purpose—to make war against the Lamb. But the Lamb will overcome, for he is the Lord of lords and King of kings, and with him will be his chosen ones, his faithful followers.

“The waters where the prostitute sits represent multitudes of peoples and cultures, who speak many languages. . . .

Today’s Takeaways
     A proverb
to guide you: A city of power, riches, excessive luxuries . . . a home for demons and every evil spirit . . . by you, all nations were led astray.
A promise to cling to: “Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: ‘With such violence, the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again. . . . Your merchants were the world’s important people. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray. In her was found the blood of prophets and of God’s holy people, of all who have been slaughtered on the earth.’ “ Revelation 18:21, 23-24 NIV
