Acts 15:36-41; 16:1-15, TBC Book Two, Chapter 139 Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch for quite some time, until Paul suggested they visit the churches they had planted. Barnabas readily agreed. What they could not agree on, however, was who should join them on this mission. When Barnabas mentioned his cousin John Mark, Paul reacted: Mark had abandoned them on their previous journey. Barnabas maintained they should give him another chance, but Paul refused, insisting it would be unwise. Their disagreement grew so sharp that the two friends parted ways. Barnabas set sail for the island of Cyprus, taking Mark with him. This was the first region they had traveled on their previous mission trip years earlier and the native homeland of Barnabas. Paul then chose Silas, who was ministering in Antioch, and traveled in the opposite direction, heading north. Commended by the brothers to God’s grace, they charted a course that would take them through Cilicia and Syria, strengthening the churches planted there. From Derbe Paul and Silas continued on to Lystra, where they met an earnest teenaged disciple named Timothy, whose mother was a Jewish believer and his father was a Gentile. . . . Then Paul, Silas, and Timothy traveled throughout Phrygia and Galatia, but the Holy Spirit would not permit them to preach in the province of Asia. . . .
