An angel of the Lord had descended there. His appearance was so brilliant that it looked like lightning, and when the guards saw him, they passed out from shock and fear. The angel went to the tomb and rolled back the massive stone, something that would have taken the strength of many men. Then he sat on top of the stone. At dawn Mary Magdalene met with another woman named Mary and a woman named Joanna. Carrying spices to anoint the body of Jesus, they left after sunrise and made their way toward the tomb. “Oh no!” exclaimed Mary Magdalene. “There’s one thing we forgot. When I watched Joseph and Nicodemus lay him in the tomb, I also saw them roll a huge stone over the opening. It took a number of servants to do it. Once we get there, how will we move the stone?” But when they arrived, they saw that the stone had already been rolled away. With their hearts beating rapidly, they slowly ventured into the tomb.
