John 19:8-16; Matthew 27:15-26; Mark 15:6-15; Luke 23:18-25 TBC Book Two, Chapter 106 A stern look now came over Pontius Pilate, for he knew he must mask what he was thinking, what he was feeling. Fear gripped his soul. He said nothing as he walked into the palace. Pilate sat down and sighed. Years ago he would not have tried to appease the Jews. In fact, when he was first appointed as governor, he took bold steps to show them he was in control, not they. He moved his military headquarters from Caesarea to Jerusalem and had soldiers’ flags raised so the image of Caesar faced the temple. To the Jews, this was idolatry. God’s Law demanded that they honor no images. Pilate knew this. What he didn’t know was that his plan would backfire. The Jews said they would rather die than to honor any man as God. When news of this reached Rome, Pilate was forced to relent. As much as he hated the Jews, he could not afford any more bad reports to Tiberias Caesar. Still, what was he to do with this man Jesus? Who was he anyway? “Bring the prisoner here,” Pilate ordered. . . . (See THE BIBLE CLICKS, Book Two, Chapter 106, for the rest of the story.) A proverb to guide you: Profiles in Cowardice: Passing the buck—when fear of imagined failure looms larger than faith in the truth you know. A promise to cling to: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” James 1:5-8 NIV A praise to fill you: The Kingdom Michael Card [Can skip ad after first 5 seconds] Comments are closed.
