Luke 23:6-16; John 19:1-8; Mark 15:16-20, TBC Book Two, Chapter 105 Pilate wondered what he would do with this innocent man, Jesus. But his accusers had given him an idea. Pilate stroked his chin as he turned to the chief priests and elders. “You say this man is a Galilean?” “Yes!” they answered. “Guards,” Pilate said, “take this man to Herod.” Now Herod and Pilate were rivals; the two of them competed for favors from Caesar. Pilate smiled to himself. He would get rid of this problem by passing him off to Herod. Like Pilate, Herod did not live in Jerusalem. He lived in Tiberias, by the Sea of Galilee, for that was the district he governed. But since many of his subjects traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover, he too had come there. When Herod learned that Jesus had been sent to him, he was delighted. To him, it was as though Pilate had done him a favor, for Herod had wanted to see Jesus for some time now. And from that day on, Herod and Pilate became friends. The chief priests and Pharisees followed the soldiers as they took Jesus to Herod. . . .
